On February 8th, 1897, the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Tennessee granted a charter to Madison Lodge #598 F&AM at Madison. The lodge met in the Presbyterian Church on Gallatin Pike at Neely's Bend Road until November 13th, 1919, on which date authority was given for the lodge to be moved to Jacksonville (now Old Hickory). The lodge met on the mezzanine of the Gymnasium Building at Forth and Jones Streets.
On January 29th, 1920, the Grand Lodge approved the name change from Madison Lodge to Old Hickory Lodge.
About 1922, the location of the meeting place was moved to the second floor of the Depot Building at the end of Donelson Avenue near the railroad.
The lodge moved to its location at 1202 Hadley Avenue in 1929. While the lodge occupied the upper floor, the lower floor was occupied by an ice cream company and hat shop, and later by a grocery store then by a teen-town.
On February 9th, 1955, the building was purchased from the E. I. DuPont Company.
In 1963 and 1964, the building was completely remodeled and refurnished affording the membership an attractive lodge hall on the upper level and complete dining facilities on the lower level.
During the years 1964 through 1985, many improvements were made, including the installation of carpet, lowering of ceilings, enlarging the kitchen area to allow installation of a stream table, a dishwasher, and other conveniences.
In 2023, Old Hickory Lodge #598 voted to merge with Goodlettsville Lodge #271.
